Levoča

Eastern Spiš is proud of its city, which is literally a cultural and historical treasure among Slovak cities and is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Levoča is one of the most visited cities in Slovakia. The city is known for a unique rectangular square that borders an important Municipal Monument Reserve.

Here you will find the Roman Catholic Church of St. Jacob, which is valuable mainly for its interior. There is a late Gothic altar of St. Jacob from the workshop of the world-wide known Master Paul from Levoča. With a height of 18.6 m is the tallest of its kind in the world. In this square, we can find the famous cage of shame, the Renaissance town hall or the Thurz House. Marianska hora, the largest pilgrimage site for Slovaks rises above the town. In 1995, the late Pope John Paul II celebrated the Holy Mass in this city.
